The Department of Mathematics was established in 2016 and it aims to train people, who are oriented towards research and teaching, in advanced areas of Mathematics. The department is currently offering under graduate (UG) program, post graduate (PG) program in Science (B. Sc. and M. Sc Mathematics) and Ph.D. program. The department has well qualified and committed faculty to guide and mentor the students’ community.

The curriculum of the department is more students centric and focused on outcome based education (OBE) pattern, with a flexibility of modifying and updating the syllabi of the courses as per the need and requirements of the society/industry.

The Department of Mathematics is considered to be one of the most vibrant in the Faculty of Sciences of the University. The Department of Mathematics is also engaged in teaching applied and advance Mathematics at undergraduate and post graduate levels for engineering, bio engineering, bio sciences, pharmacy, business management and computer applications departments.

The rigorous exposures to Mathematics and Operations Research are aimed at equipping the students with theories and analytical techniques as well as thorough information and expertise through the use of Computer packages so that they can work knowledgeably in diverse areas. Subsequently, the students on successful completion of courses should be capable to work in public and private sector organizations related to their respective fields.

Introduction

Mathematics may appear to be an abstract subject but it has its roots many millennia ago in the systematic development of methods to solve practical problems. In the modern age the breadth of the applicability of Mathematics is immense not just in the areas of Science, Technology and Engineering but in Medicine, Business, Commerce and Finance. The principles and methods of Mathematics are used in these fields to model real world processes and activities.

The applicability of Mathematics is expanding as more areas of human work and endeavour require the analytical model building approach of Modern Mathematics. These programs will produce graduates who have the expertise to work as applied Mathematicians in engineering, science based industry, commerce and in the public and private sectors in both research and education.

Mathematics is at the heart of problem solving and decision making in modern society and plays a crucial role in virtually all industries. A combination of pure and applied Mathematics will provide the broad knowledge base and skills necessary for problem solving and the modeling of natural phenomena.

What will be scope after completion of course?

Employment can be obtained in areas such as engineering, science based industry, commerce and in the public and private sectors in both research and education. Students may go on to postgraduate study, either at master’s level, usually with a career path in mind, or at doctorate level for those wishing to pursue an academic career.

Eligibility Graduation from respective stream or equivalent course or in from any recognized University with minimum 50% marks for general (open) category and 45% marks for students of SC and ST category.

Hostel Fee Rs. 65000 per annum + 5000 security deposit.
