About Ph.D. Programme

The Ph.D. Programme at SUM is designed for candidates to solve mainly real time industrial, local, regional, national and inter-national issues/problems. This is a win-win situation for the University and the Industry where the Ph.D. scholar gets exposed to challenging problems which has immediate impact on the industries and societal welfare.

Eligibility criteria for admission to Ph.D. Programmeme:

  • Candidates having a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an Authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
  • Candidates possessing a degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian institution, from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational

Duration of the Programme:

  • Ph.D. Programmeme shall be for a minimum duration of three years for full time and four years for part time, including coursework and a maximum of {(n + 2) + 1*} years, where n is the minimum duration of the Programme.
  • Extension beyond the above limits may be granted by the Vice-Chancellor for 1* year (or more in some special case) given through the recommendation of Research Advisory Committee (RAC).
  • The women candidates and Persons with more than 40% disability may be allowed a relaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave up to 240 days once in the entire duration of Ph.D. Programmeme.

Ph.D. Selection Procedure

The list of all eligible candidates who apply for Ph.D. Programmeme will be displayed on the Institute website. The eligible candidates will be invited for the Written Test (SUM Ph.D. Entrance Test-SUNPET) at SUN Campus

Eligibility Criteria For Admission To Ph.D. Programmeme:

The following individuals are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme of the university:

  • Candidates having a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • Post graduate students of Sandip University, Madhubani whose dissertation has been evaluated and the viva-voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme.
  • Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority Ph.D. Regulations 2021 10 in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

Duration Of The Programme:

  • Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three (03) years, including course work and a maximum of six (06) years. The duration will be counted from the date of admission/registration/enrolment in the Ph.D. programme.
  • Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the university. Any decision on the extension shall be approved by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.
  • The women candidates and Persons with Disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of Ph.D. programme for up to 240 days.
  • Candidates must apply (in writing) for any relaxations, extension, and maternity leave to be availed during the course of Ph.D. to the supervisor which shall be approved by the URC on the recommendation of RAC.

General instructions to the candidates

Ph.D. ADMISSIONS RULES

  • A candidate is required to appear in the written test and interview only in the department in which he/she has applied.
  • Application number allotted to the candidates will be the reference used during the entrance examination and rest of the admission process.
  • No separate admit card will be issue for entrance exarmination. Therefore, the candidates must have a valid photo ID proof (with correct details) during the written test and interview.
  • Candidates appearing in the written test without a valid ID card shall not be allowed to appear in the examination.
  • The candidates must report to the examination centre at least 30 minutes before the start of examination and should follow the general rules and regulation of examination. ( No separate certificate of result will be issued by the University.
  • The university may conduct entrance test either in online or offline mode as per the convenience.
  • Candidates are directed to visit the institute website regularly.
  • Major changes in this notification will be followed by the corrigendum on the university website.
  • All the admitted candidates in the Ph.D. programme will abide by the Ph.D. regulation 2021 of the university and the changes included in it from time to time.
  • The university has right to modify the vacancy and specialisation at any point without any notification.
  • Merely sending an application and subsequently appearing in the written test/interview does noi guarantee admission to the Ph.D. programme. The university reserves all rights to restrict number of candidates for a particular branch/ specialization and accordingly shall finalize the admission list.
  • The university reserves the right to refuse admission to any candidate without assigning any reason. All disputes are subject to Patna High Court only

Fees & Fellowship

The admitted candidates as Ph.D. research scholar of the university shall pay a tuition fee of Rs. 60,000 (sixty thousand only) per year excluding hostel, mess, examination, thesis evaluation, and other charges. The research scholars shall follow the revised fee structure from time to time.

Ph.D. Entrance Test

Candidate shall be admitted to Ph.D. programme by the following two-stage process:

  • Entrance Examination, which shall be a qualifying test. The Entrance Examination (SUMPETJul-Dec 2022) will be of 100 marks with multiple choice type questions.
  • Personal Interview of candidates qualifying in Entrance Test/ Candidates exempted from Entrance Examination, to be conducted as per procedure prescribed in due course.

Entrance Test Paper shall consist of following two components:

  • Research methodology 50 marks
  • Domain test : 50 marks
  • Total marks : 100 marks
  • Number of questions : 100 questions (1 marks each & no negative marking)
  • Duration of test : 2 hours

Qualifying marks & cut-off: The candidates must obtain 50% marks in the entrance test to be considered for further selection process. There shall be a relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layers)/Differently-abled category. The university shall consider a cut-off as per the availability of seats and the number of applicants.
