Sandip University, Nashik (SUN) and IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Program signed an agreement on 25th July 2017. Col. Prof. N. Ramchandran, Vice Chancellor, Sandip University, Nashik and Mrs. Shyama Iyer, National Coordinator, Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay were present as signing authorities of agreement. Because of this agreement, Sandip University, Nashik, Maharashtra became Spoken Tutorial IIT Bombay’s Nodal Resource Centre (NRC) for Nashik Region. As an NRC Sandip University, Nashik is nurturing and spreading awareness among the colleges (the clusters) in Nashik and surrounding districts.
Spoken Tutorial is an initiative by the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD), Government of India and is being developed by IIT Bombay. The Spoken Tutorial Project is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) such as Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, LibreOffice etc. via an easy Video tool - Spoken Tutorials. Some of the salient features of SELF (Spoken Tutorial based Education and Learning through Free FOSS study) are as follows.
- This distance education method is highly conducive to self-learning.
- Once one gets started any student or faculty can master the FOSS and also get certificates, Silver/Learner's and Gold/Completion (based on clearing an assessment test).
- UG, PG or Research scholar students and even teachers of Science, Engineering, Commerce and Management disciplines can learn any of the FOSS.
Mr. Bhushan Chaudhari from SUN is working as Chief Central Coordinator for Spoken Tutorial Programs. Organizers are invigilators are appointed in every school of SUN to look after spoken training programs and certification courses. So far,a total of 593 students from SUN have successfully registered for spoken certificate courses. In total, 16 certificate courses are conducted till date.
