About Ph.D. Programme

Candidate shall be admitted to Ph.D. programme by the following two-stage process

  • Entrance Examination, which shall be qualifying test.The Entrance Examination (SUMPET- January-June 2024) will be of 100 marks with multiple choice type questions.
  • Personal Interview of candidates qualifying in Entrance Test/ Candidates exempted from Entrance Examination, to be conducted as per procedure prescribed in due course.

Entrance Test Paper shall consist of the following two components:

  • Research Methodology: 50 marks
  • Domain Test: 50 marks
  • Total Marks: 100 marks
  • Number of Questions: 100 questions (1 mark each & no negative marking)
  • Duration of Test: 2 hours

Qualifying marks & Cut-off: The candidates must obtain 50% marks in the entrance test to be considered for the further selection process. There shall be a relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layers)/Differently-abled category. The university shall consider a cut-off as per the availability of seats and the number of applicants.

Eligibility for admission in Ph. D. programme:

  • Candidates having a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an Authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
  • Candidates possessing a degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian institution, from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.

Admission procedure and other details

  • Admission for the Ph.D. programme through the entrance examination mentioned above shall be based upon the candidate’s performance in written test followed by interview.
  • The name of candidates with their application number, fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to a Ph.D. programme will be displayed on the website as per the admission schedule.
  • Admission shall be based upon the merit list prepared after the written test and interview.

Programme Fee

The admitted candidates as Ph.D. research scholar of the university shall pay a tuition fee of Rs. 60,000* (sixty thousand only) per year excluding hostel, mess, examination, thesis evaluation, and other charges. The research scholars shall follow the revised fee structure from time to time.

  • Other information: Fill the details of M.Phil. certificate/GATE/NET score and upload the score card. Details of work experience, list of publications, and research interests may be entered if available. Click next.
  • Payment details: Fill the details of fee paid and upload proof of fee payment.
  • Click on submit.

General information to the candidates

  • A candidate is required to appear in the written test and interview only in the department in which he/she has applied.
  • Application number allotted to the candidates will be the reference used during the entrance examination and rest of the admission process.
  • No separate admit card will be issue for entrance examination. Therefore, the candidates must have a valid photo ID proof (with correct details) during the written test and interview.
  • Candidates appearing in the written test without a valid ID card shall not be allowed to appear in the examination.
  • The candidates must report to the examination centre at least 30 minutes before the start of examination and should follow the general rules and regulation of examination.
  • No separate certificate of result will be issued by the University.
  • The university may conduct entrance test either in online or offline mode as per the convenience.

  • Major changes in this notification will be followed by the corrigendum on the university website.
  • All the admitted candidates in the Ph.D. programme will abide by the Ph.D. regulation 2021 of the university and the changes included in it from time to time.
  • The university shall NOT provide any fellowship to the selected Ph.D. scholars as of now.
  • The university has right to modify the vacancy and specialisation at any point without any notification.
  • Merely sending an application and subsequently appearing in the written test/interview does not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. programme. The university reserves all rights to restrict number ofcandidates for a particular branch/ specialization and accordingly shall finalize the admission list.
  • The university reserves the right to refuse admission to any candidate without assigning any reason. All disputes are subject to Patna High Court only.
